Loreto is a small town located on a hill south of Ancona. It is a few km inland from the Adriatic coast in the Marche region in central Italy.
Loreto is one of the most important pilgrim sites in Italy. Almost 4 million pilgrims come here every year. According to legend, performed the Virgin Mary’s House (Casa Santa), then Jesus’s childhood, by the year 1294 by angels from the Holy Land to Loreto. Recent studies show that it was a Byzantine family, Angelos, who stood for the move of the house to prevent it fall into the hands of the infidels when the Crusader kingdom fell.
